My Personal Experience with Wine

My name is Christina and I am a senior studying economics and statistics. In all honesty, I have not drank a lot of wine thus far. One of the reasons why I don't really drink wine is because there are so many options, and I usually never know which one is worth trying. But the main reason for why I don't drink a lot of wine would have to be because of my first experience trying it. My first time trying wine was during my junior year during a tailgate. One of the houses that I was at was originally serving different alcoholic beverages, but when they ran out, had to switch to boxed wine. They had the brand Franzia and 3 options of types of wine: red, white, and rose. I was able to try each type of wine during the tailgate, and I ended up not liking any of them. The white was too tart for my taste, and the rose was uninteresting. The red was a little better because I thought it was sweet, but I still didn't enjoy it.

Aside from the tailgates, I have only drank wine one other time in a different environment. My friend and I went to a winery called the Bull Run Winery to catch up one day. We had shared a wine tasting and was given small crackers to eat with the wine. I actually enjoyed some of the wines from the tasting, especially the ones that were sweeter and mellow than bright. I liked that I got to taste small amounts of wine at a time rather than trying to drink a lot of one kind at once. My friend preferred the wines that were made with fewer ingredients, but I ended up liking the ones that was a mixture of a bunch of ingredients. It was interesting to learn that a lot of the wines from Bull Run were made nearby.

From this course, I am hoping to get exposed to different types of wine, especially ones that others recommend. A lot of my friends enjoy wine, so I feel like I might not have found the right one for my taste yet. I would also like to discover what aspects of wine that I prefer and what foods pair nicely with wines. I like to cook, so I think it would elevate the meals if I added a wine that would compliment it; especially for fancier meals.
